Event management is about applying project management concepts to the creation and development of events such as festivals, workshops, conferences, ceremonies, formal parties, concerts, or conventions. The events industry now includes planning events of all sizes from the Olympics down to business breakfast meetings.

Planning and coordinating an event can include budgeting, scheduling, site selection, acquiring necessary permits, coordinating transportation and parking, arranging for speakers or entertainers, arranging decoration, event security, catering and emergency plans.

I have been a boxer for 11 years and have about 10 years left of fighting. I did the event management course with TAFE Western so that I have something to fall back on once my fighting career is over.

I already organise my own fight nights, but once I stop fighting I will use the skills from the course to put on and promote fight nights to help kids who are just starting out as boxers.

The event skills that I learned will help me to plan and put in place all of the elements for a successful fight night – organise the judges and referees, get the fights sanctioned, promote the event to potential fighters, get sponsorship, organise travel accommodation and food, make sure I fulfill all of the legal requirements, book a venue, and complete a risk management plan.

How will I study?

Our industry trainers have real world experience of the events industry, combined with exceptional facilitation and coaching skills. They will help you work your way through the course material, complete your assignments and provide one on one tutorial support as needed.

We'll send you the course material, and all you have to do is turn the page and get started. Our course facilitators are at hand when you need a hand.

Can my current skills count towards the course?

If you have skills in project management, or hospitality, or customer service, talk to us to find out whether we can give you credit for these skills. This may reduce the time that you will have to study, as well as the cost.

What will I pay?

Our Diploma and our Advanced Diploma in Event Management costs only $4,630 each if eligible for subsidy or $10,860 for non eligible students. Meet some of our event management facilitators

Robyn Isbester

"The event sector is a dynamic, vibrant industry with amazing opportunities for a rewarding career for TAFE Western Event Management graduates."

Robyn Isbester is a seasoned event manager of charity and community events and has worked in the industry for over a decade. She has been a committee member for several charity events and has helped to raise record breaking amounts of money at fundraising events.

Robyn brings out the best in her students providing them with hands on experience – one example would be the '100 Mile Diet Lunch' a regional event promoting local food, from local producers as part of CRAVE Sydney International Food Festival for 500 guests, which she put together with her students.

Currently Robyn is a Committee member of JAM (Just About Music) Orange Inc. and this year helped manage and promote the highly successful sell-out Festival of Small Halls music event in Orange.

Robyn's passion for event management and her enthusiasm as an educator allows her to build a great rapport with students and help them succeed in the industry.

Claire Tuck

"After 25 years of event and hospitality industry experience I am now using my skills to help new event managers gain the skills they need. I am very passionate about the event industry and look forward to being a part of your journey."

Claire started her career in a 5 star hotel property in Cairns working at a supervisory level in food and beverage, banquets and front office. She then went on to work at Ochre Restaurant, one of the most awarded, and largest outside catering and events operators in Far North Queensland. Whilst at Ochre, Claire worked on horse racing carnivals, private rainforest weddings and gala dinners for up to 3000 people.

Claire has returned to this employer many times over the years and still flies up from time to time for contract work.

Whilst working with the Adelaide Bank (now merged with Bendigo Bank) Claire broadened her experience with roles in customer service, sales, and customer relations. She developed skills in finance, conflict management, regulatory procedures and outstanding customer service during this time.

Most recently Claire has headed up a crack team at hatted regional restaurant Lolli Redini's and is now one of our fantastic course facilitators.

Margaret Middleton

"Regional events are my passion. They reflect the character and culture of an area and they play an important part in bringing visitors to NSW"

Margaret Middleton has had a long and varied career in the tourism events industry. Not only has she been instrumental in the development and running of events for Cowra Tourism, as well as Southern Highlands Tourism, but also has experience of setting up and running a major recreation and sport facility in Moss Vale. Margaret is as much at home being the Food, Beverage and Events manager at a large accommodation facility, as she is organising community events from art shows to school programs.
